Four years ago, I launched my consulting business and started serving nonprofits clients.
Every year around this time, I take stock in what I've learned and accomplished. The big lesson for my fourth anniversary as an entrepreneur?
Less is more.
When I started, I wanted to do anything and everything. I wanted to take on any project at any time. Think Cheesecake Factory menu - so many options that it was hard to really explain what I actually did - and what kind of problems I was solving for nonprofits.
This approach also meant that I spent a lot of time making custom proposals and prices.
Nowadays, I offer one thing to clients: Align & Accelerate. It's an eight-month process where I build a customized strategic plan, offer weekly coaching sessions, and lead two training sessions with the board of directors. One offering, one price.
Think "In-n-Out menu," if that helps.
Working with Align & Accelerate, clients have built monthly, legacy, and major giving programs. They've launched engagement plans for board members. Staff members have gained the tools and the tactics needed to raise more and do more for their mission. Align & Accelerate works for nonprofits who want to raise more, do it faster, and do it year after year.
